What's happening to our planet and how can you help?
The world's climate is changing as a direct result of human activity.
This book looks at what climate change is, the ways in which it is
affecting our planet and suggests projects and ideas to encourage
everyone to do what they can to be greener, limit their own carbon
footprints, and make a difference.
Excerpt: Our homes, cars and factories pump out about 40 billion tons
of CO2 every year. This gas then wraps around our planet and the Sun's
hear in but not out just like a greenhouse. Methane is also a greenhouse
gas, but its greenhouse effect is a staggering 25 times more powerful
than CO2. Methane is release when waste landfills rots and when cows
burp grassy gas. These greenhouse gases stay in the atmosphere, so every
year the "blanket" gets thicker and thicker, and Earth gets hotter and
hotter.
Includes ideas for activities readers can do such as crafting, plus
simple experiments to monitor rainfall or to understand the science
behind events such as melting ice.
