Originally published in 1791 in England, this personal account of an
Indian interpreter and trader describes the manners and customs of the
North American Indians, with an account of the posts situated on the St.
Laurence River, Lake Ontario, etc. The book also includes a vocabulary
of the Chippewa language, along with word lists in Iroquois, Mohegan,
Shawanee, and Eskimo and a table showing a comparison of the Algonquin
and Chippewa languages.
