Chr. Falb offers an in-depth study of five Early Bronze Age ceramic
wares found in Northern Syria (esp. EBA III until IV B): the North
Mesopotamian Metallic Ware, the Euphrates Ware, the Black Euphrates
Ware, the Combed Wash Ware, and the Smeared Wash Ware. The volume
provides the reader with introductions to the macroscopic and scientific
methods of analysing ceramic wares. Extensive samples of the wares taken
from various sites have been studied using thin section analysis (colour
plates are included) and X-ray fluorescence analysis. The descriptions
of the wares are supplemented by hundreds of illustrations and an
annotated catalogue of find spots. Thus, the study will serve as a
handbook for excavations in the region.
