This book provides a comprehensive overview of, and best practice
evidence-based guidance on, the prevention and management of aggression
and violence by patients with mental disorder across a variety of
different settings and specialist patient groups. General aspects of
violence management are covered, alongside both pharmacological and
psychological interventions. In this second edition, first edition
chapters have been fully revised and greatly expanded with new chapters
on working with violence in children, criminal and youth justice liaison
and diversion systems, forensic psychiatry and adult inpatient secure
settings, the relationship between violence and mental health inequality
in the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities, service user
involvement in training, and engagement with patients and carers. It
will be of use to a wide range of mental health professionals working in
community, in-patient and forensic (including prison) settings, as well
as clinicians dealing with potentially violent incidents day-to-day.
