This volume is the result of a project supported by the Spanish Ministry
of Science and Technology, the aim of which was to study the impact of
war on the non-combatant population of the Ancient Near East. The book
presents seven contributions that analyse violence against
non-combatants across a broad chronological spectrum, stretching from
the end of the third millennium BCE to the middle of the first
millennium. Contributions in this volume are the product of the project
itself and arise from the particular research of specialists whose work
relates to the theme of the project.
