The book is a collection of nine essays on the bauls of Bengal. It
includes an interview of a renowned baul from Bolpur, Santiniketan. The
book delineates the Baul Darshan (philosophy of the bauls), their sacred
dehatatwa ('Theory of the Body'), and the symbolism in their songs.
The author also narrates how Fakir Lalon Shah (1774-1890), the great
Bengali baul saint, had influenced generations of singers, artists, and
mystics (Rabindranath Tagore among them).
