Today, Table Tennis has become one of the most favorable sports in the
world. Nearly 100 countries' players attended the 2000 World Table
Tennis Championships in Yokohama, Japan. In fact, table tennis was
accepted as a formal Olympics sports in the 21st Olympics (1996,
Atlanta, USA). This sport has wonderful value in physical exercise,
recreation and competition. It isn't limited by age, sex and body
conditions. Its unique features include no need for big gym, low cost
for facility and equipment, inexpensive cost in training and
competition, and lifelong playing possibility; it is becoming a popular
sport for people of all ages. P. R. China has been recognized as the
"kingdom of Table Tennis"; and has held a leading position in this sport
since 1960s. This book, therefore, is based on the primary theories and
most effective coaching and training methods of Chinese table tennis;
plus the experiences of the author who as a table tennis player, coach
and professor for over 30 years. In brief, the aim of this book is to
provide the primary theories, skills, tactics, and research methods in
teaching and practicing table tennis for people at all levels.
