Intended as supplementary material for undergraduate physics students,
this wide-ranging collection of problems in applied mathematics and
physics features complete solutions. The problems were specially chosen
for the inventiveness and resourcefulness their solutions demand, and
they offer students the opportunity to apply their general knowledge to
specific areas.
Numerous problems, many of them illustrated with figures, cover a
diverse array of fields: kinematics; the dynamics of motion in a
straight line; statics; work, power, and energy; the dynamics of motion
in a circle; and the universal theory of gravitation. Additional topics
include oscillation, waves, and sound; the mechanics of liquids and
gases; heat and capillary phenomena; electricity; and optics.
