This introduction to prehistoric pottery in Britain and Ireland is
intended for the general reader and is not a specialist tool for
in-depth research and analysis. Alex Gibson takes a thematic and then
chronological approach, discussing the presence of different styles and
forms of pottery, their methods of manufacture, the contexts in which
they were used and the importance of being able to date them, analyse
their contents and make inferences about ancient economies and cultures.
Beginning with the early Neolithic and going through to the late Iron
Age, above all, Gibson makes the study of pottery interesting, which is
no mean feat!
