Dental Caries is one of the most common oral diseases to impact human
lives adversely. The presence of deep pits and fissures on the occlusal
surfaces of the posterior teeth has been one of the various factors
responsible for this multi-factorial disease. Depending upon the
susceptibility of the individual to Dental Caries, the pit and fissure
sealants can be used effectively to prevent the same. The principle by
which it works is by forming a protective layer on the occlusal surface
immune to salivary environment. Various materials have been used as
sealants including Glass ionomer and resins. This book explores in
detail all the viable materials used as Sealants whether used
independently or in combination and the preventive effect that they have
on the human teeth.
