"Music in Christian Worship Today" is a cross-cultural historical study
of the Nigerian practice of composing songs for worship that cut across
cultures. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the subject matter, the
book adopts a historical musicological method and partly an
ethnomusicological method (fieldwork supplemented by interviews and a
questionnaire). The objectives are to arouse interest in the study of
different manifestations of worship music in multicultural contexts, to
contribute to ongoing efforts to allow a culturally diverse faith
community to participate actively in worship through culturally grounded
songs, and to provide some Nigerian examples of worship music to a
larger readership.
