Multi-Word Verbs are idiomatic expressions combining verbs and one or
more particles to make new verbs whose meaning cannot be determined by
knowing the meaning of their individual parts. Multi-word verbs are
extremely common in English, often complex and present a particular
problem for learners of English both in terms of their grammatical form
and their lexical meaning. It is found that learners around the world
tend to panic at the mere mention of their name, and to avoid using them
for fear of making mistakes.
