Founded in 1946, the Mainz University Library is today a modern service
facility with holdings of more than 3.5 million printed items and over
110,000 e-books and e-journals as well as a comprehensive range of
information and training services. The present account traces that
development from its beginnings to 2011, highlighting in particular the
first establishment of the library in the immediate post-war period and
its structural change from a two-tier library system to an integrated
library system. Andreas Brandtner's contribution dealing with strategic
positioning, organizational development, and the assumption of new tasks
between 2011 and 2018 brings the volume up to date.
