First flown in 1957, the Lockheed L-188 Electra was the first large
turboprop airliner built in the United States. It had airfield
performance capabilities unmatched by many jet transport aircraft even
today; however, following two fatal crashes and the widespread
introduction of jet airliners, many Electras were converted into
freighters. Amazingly, some Electras are still being used today.
Wonderfully illustrated, this new book edition tells the story of this
aircraft and those who worked on it.
