Published in 1613, Escorbiac's epic poem, La Christiade, follows on from the poetry of Du Bartas. The peculiarity of this rewriting of the Gospels, in which profane and sacred references mingle, lies in the difficult reconciliation of epic inspiration and Christian aspiration.
