STORM WARNINGS It was born in the Caribbean, fashioned of winds that
swirled above the sea, gathering in strength and intensity. The
prevailing winds rushing into a low-pressure area, fueled by the
rotation of the Earth itself, began their counterclockwise spiral. There
was a hollow center to the winds, the eye. Men named her Hurricane
Hedda. She picked up forward momentum as she reached into the temperate
zone. She brushed by Cape Hatteras and took off as though it had been a
springboard, moving north and eastward. Dunes Point lay directly in its
path.
