Historic Dress of the Clergy by the Rev Geo S Tyack written by Rev.
George Smith Tyack, published by Anonim which was released on 25 January
1897. It is pleasing to observe on every hand signs of a lively, and
growing, interest in things ecclesiastical. Subjects once left to the
antiquary and the ecclesiologist, as requiring more time or learning
than the claims of business would allow the mass of men to devote to
them, are now studied by all classes with commendable earnestness and
intelligence. It is to this general public that the author of the
following pages addresses himself, in an attempt to supply, in a form
popular yet exact, and brief yet comprehensive, an account of the
historic dress of the clergy. His special aim has been to give useful
information, and trustworthy help to the rank and file of the great and,
he believes, daily growing forces of the English Church.
