The main characters, Jake and Sophie, are thrown together in a fast-moving plot that includes international intrigue, art, self-discovery and a struggle for survival in underground Paris. They encounter characters like Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Gertrude Stein and Picasso, who Jake mistakenly believed would prove to be 'Gods of Our Time'. The CEO of a film company who snatched up the rights, called it, "A powerful and genuinely touching love story worthy of a large following."
