Eyes to the East tells of the enjoyable yet näive life that expat
teachers experience within a Chinese city, and the bonds that exist
between them and the local community. When Charlie, a recent UK
university graduatearrives, he is excited to experience a new world, but
unprepared for the casual racism, sexism and inequality the country's
propaganda denies. Nor is he impressed by some of the expats. In his new
and more seasoned flatmate, Kevin, Charlie discovers himself and becomes
worried by what he sees. No matter how many opportunities some people
are given to start afresh, it doesn't mean they'll change for the
better.
