After the success of Alice in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll decided to write Alice Through the Looking Glass six years later. As the title alludes, many of the things that occur in this book seem, metaphorically, reflected in the mirror. This culminates a spectacular diptych that makes its author one of the greatest in universal literature.
