Malta, the much contested Mediterranean island most famous for its
endurance during the air siege by Germany and Italy in World War II,
also played a major part in the French revolutionary and Napoleonic
Wars. This important and rare book, first published in 1909, narrates
the history of the island under first French revolutionary, and finally
British occupation between 1798 and 1815. The book contains an unusual
collection of English and foreign documents describing the fighting
between the French and the British, aided by Maltese, Portuguese and
Neapolitan allies which culminated in Britain taking and holding the
island.
