a woman and the land from which she çropped. This story now beginning in
the late 1880s in Indiana farm country. A Daughter of the Land tells the
story of Kate Bates, a young lady with ambition that she must begin on
her own to achieve. Kate is the last child of a big family and realises
the meaning of hard work. She needs a chance at life while her father
wants that she stay at home and continue work there. Kate quits and her
family disowns her. She has a tough life and experiences many a problem
before things finally turn around for her. This is a tale of hard labour
and true love. It is also the story of lots of women at the time. There
are ordinary women, bold women, needy women and shrewd women. Kate's
real aim is to own and develop a large farm. The characters are human
and the conditions are authentic. After refusing the easy way to her
dream, she hurts through a bad marriage but finally obtains her land and
attains happiness.
