Wirt Gerrarre A READ COUNTRY BOOKS CLASSIC REPRINT Originally published
in 1895 this extremely rare early work on the bibliography of guns and
shooting is both expensive and very hard to find in its first edition.
READ COUNTRY BOOKS have republished it, using the original text as part
of their History of Shooting series. Wirt Gerrarre was the pen name of
W.O. Greener who was the son of W.W. Greener, the famous English
gunmaker. He was perhaps best known as former editor of "The Gunmaker"
and the "Sporting Goods Review." The book consists of two hundred and
eighteen pages divided into three parts: Part One deals with Ancient
Books (1472 - 1850). Part Two covers Modern Books (1851 - 1894) Part
Three lists books on various gun related subjects including Arms
Collections, Gunpowder, Gun Wounds etc. This important bibliography
contains descriptions of hundreds of gun books originating from Europe,
Asia, Africa, America and Australia, with short descriptions of each.
This is a fascinating read for any gun buff or historian and will prove
invaluable to the serious book collector. Many of the earliest sporting
books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now
extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. READ COUNTRY BOOKS are
republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern
editions, using the original text and artwork. Keywords: Country Books
